Raise The Dead
03:43
|
|||
I'm a village kid
I'm not interested
In your shingle hills
In your railway line
I take anything
I find in my bag
They all fight bad head
They all help you out
I've been here twice now
And this time is less
Harrowing there's no
Trail of struggling
Sea life, throw them in
Trail of struggling
Sea life, throw them in
Trail of struggling...
Here we go again
Try to raise the dead
It's just a flat house
In a flat surround
Power stations don't
Male you wonderful
Just a bus ride and
Just water and sand
Good for the legs and
For the skin too and
Rough up the fingers and rough up the shins
Rough up the hulls and the breaks and the fins
Lash up the boat house and smash up your things
Take up the creatures and throw them back in
Here we go again
Try to raise the dead
Trail of struggling
Sea life, throw them in
Trail of struggling
Sea life, throw them in
Trail of struggling
Sea life, throw them in...
So up from the ocean and over the skin
Wind through the dry grass to blow them back in
Sweep up the creatures who hang by a thread
No time for talk when you're raising the dead

ST Action

On my computer
Atari ST 520 FM
That's my computer!
I play it every single night and then
I go to bed
Then I get up again
Then I play on my computer
Then I do it again
On my computer
Green screen! Bombed out! It's crashed again!
That's my computer
Never mind!
I boot it up again and again and then
I go to bed
Then I get up again
Then I play on my computer
Then I do it again
ONE DAY I'LL
STEP OUTSIDE
INTO THE
BIG WORLD WIDE
'TIL THAT TIME
I'M ALRIGHT
NEARLY UP TO LEVEL NINE!
On my computer
Atari ST 520 FM
That's my computer!
I play it every single night and then
I go to bed
Or I won't go to bed!
I'll just keep playing my computer
Forever and ever and ever and ever...

The First Girls
02:38
|
|||
The first girl I knew scratched my face from side to side. My parents didn't know what to think but in the end we reached an understanding. She would keep to one side of the room and I would keep to mine. Eventually we made our peace when she was sunbathing one day, and in the end I'd like to think we were alright.
The second girl I would follow anywhere. If you lost me you'd just call her and I'd come running behind. We didn't have much in common, with her love of farming and football, but somehow we worked together, and the creosote smell of her outdoor life was like the sweetest perfume to me.
The next girl could bite if you caught her wrong and her table manners weren't up to much, but she would protect the needy until the end and she would hide in the bath if she heard a firework or a thunderstorm. Endlessly tolerant, she would give her side as a pillow to the lonely unless you made the mistake of inviting her for a swim. She was a land girl to the end.
Walk me through the fields again
Put your head to mine
Stretch out in the sun together
Or just drop me a line
The fourth girl was aloof and distant, and although we had known each other as children it was hard to find common ground. Still, she put up with a lot and would protect me from spiders when I needed it. Her daughter, however, only had eyes for me and would push away any other girl who came close. We would while away our evenings in front of the TV, her fingers on my lips and her eyes locked to mine. At night she would tap at my window when my parents were asleep and breeze in through the moths and the bats in the country air, and then we'd sit on my bed together until the sun came up.
Walk me through the fields again
Put your head to mine
Stretch out in the sun together
Or just drop me a line
The next girl had two odd eyes and would go mad if you suggested a walk or some food. She was afraid of hills and could only find her way home if someone rattled their keys in her face. Sometimes she would sit on my shoulder and bite my head, but her heart was always in the right place and she was always happy to see you when you got in.
The last girl would scratch my face from side to side if she could, although sometimes, when no one else is looking, she'll sit with me and watch the world go by. I mostly keep out of her way, if I'm honest, and anyway, I think she prefers my dad.

Cats Who Look Like You
03:18
|
|||
I've got a lot of sympathy for cats who looks like you
I've got a head for business and a bod for business too
What say we blow this work thing off and get out of this room?
We could hit the Village clubs, the Circle and the Tube.
We are perfect
We are cats who look like you
Keep an eye on me
I'll keep an eye on you
If there's one thing
That nobody else can do
We're the best at being
Cats who look like you
I've got a lot of sympathy for cats who sleep like you
The world looks better upside down and everything is cool
If you're stuck on windowsills then I can get you through
I know you have your own door man but hey, what can you do?
We are perfect
We are cats who look like you
Keep an eye on me
I'll keep an eye on you
If there's one thing
That nobody else can do
We're the best at being
Cats who look like you
I've got a lot of sympathy for cats who think like you
Don't put me anywhere that's comfy, baby tell me true
If you're curling in a corner I feel the same way too
I don't need no sympathy I'm a cat that looks like you
We are perfect
We are cats who look like you
Keep an eye on me
I'll keep an eye on you
If there's one thing
That nobody else can do
We're the best at being
Cats who look like you

Border Lights
02:44
|
|||
There's a forest; lost, unconscious, weight on my mind
It's so uncomplicated, on
There is a crushing tower block on my lines
There is another coming on
Border light is soft, unflinching
Rabbit in a hole
Quarter up the loft and kitchen
Stacks and table rolls
There is an undiluted well of my time
Just tell me boy, what have you done?
Border light is soft, unflinching
Rabbit in a hole
Quarter up the loft and kitchen
Stacks and table rolls
Let the record stop revolving
Let the record show
On the covers, in the hoardings
On the mattress low
Border light is soft, unflinching
Rabbit in a hole
Quarter up the loft and kitchen
Stacks and table rolls
Call the night line, sink to bracken
Field to undertow
For the light, elastic striping
Talk is getting old

Estuary Pilots
02:12
|
|||
Out of a dream
January steam
You could sell papers with all I have seen
Tide on my back
Salt in my ear
Shadows of chimneys by which I will steer
All laid out on
London fields in
Morning sun
All I could say
If I had the chance
This river has led me one hell of a dance
Art from my bones
My body, the sea
With all of my heart let it come back to me
All those drunken nights
The rain is
Falling back to you
Falling back to you...

The God Of Common Sense
02:29
|
|||
I'm staring at the problem in the face
I'm fading on nobody's pencil case
I wrap myself around my head
I smile like I am half past dead
I'm spending all my evenings at home
I wonder why I'm drinking all alone
I'm standing in a T-shirt in the rain
I've only got myself to blame
Look down
You're six feet off the ground
And you could dance this thing around
But now
Now that you look around
Forget it!
Stamp the volume down!
I know I put the con in confidence
I'm standing in the corner cos I can
I claim to be the god of common sense
I'm leaning on a live electric fence

Soft Call
02:54
|
|||
Soft fall
On the dry wall
Feel the ground call
Bleed the light
Soft call
To the sea wall
By the rockfall
To the side
Soft fall
From the top wall
Feel the ground call
Feel untied
Soft call
To the back wall
That's what you come for
Every night
And I lay my drunk head down
And sorry shone around
Carpet swept back down
Hold all the great unfound
And if all the men are saying
And all the girls say too
It's no for them to say it
It's just something we do
We do.

Back Up
04:33
|
|||
The sentiment is true but broken
This garbage is happening to me
Washed on a sofa torn and lived-in
A plastic bag tied to a tree
We snap and slide the lot along the surface
Where all of the hope comes to end
Keep holding all the lonely and the nervous
Underdressed and up against everything
It's just another empty morning
It's just a month of heavy skies
The folded picture in the wiring (of who knows where and who knows why?)
The last time living felt alive
We snap and slide the lot along the surface
Where all of the hope comes to end
Keep holding all the lonely and the nervous
Underdressed and up against everything
Nail up the door
Circle the floor
Wake up once more
Plans for the winter were never in question
And pictures of cats are not a cure for depression
We snap and slide the lot along the surface
Where all of the hope comes to end
Keep holding all the lonely and the nervous
Underdressed and up against everything
Get back up, back up, back up, back up...

Scandinavia
04:20
|
|||
Looks like the roof came in
Looks like we're out of gin
Looks like you're off again
Feels like I'm breaking in
Looks like the floor gave out
Corridor empty now
Looks like you're going out
Feels like the lights went down
Scandinavia
Don't know where to begin
You're picture is wearing thin
Scandinavia
Rooftops are white again
Something to light you in
The belt and the corduroy
The best of the northern boys
A line on a TV screen
A break in a subroutine
So off to the club again
The one that still lets us in
Uphill both ways in the snow
Just throw on a jacket and go
Scandinavia
Don't know where to begin
You're picture is wearing thin
Scandinavia
Rooftops are white again
Something to light you in
